Who We Are
Te Rae Genetics was founded in 1978 by Lance and Bev Wilson on their Central Southland rolling hill country farm.

Te Rae Genetics have been breeding Coopworth, Coopworth Texel cross (CoopTex), and Texel Poll Dorset rams for many years and have also introduced CoopDale recently. We have been supplying many rams for over 30 years to farms throughout New Zealand, including winners of the ewe hogget competition and also the Glammys. Te Rae is now owned by Lance and Bev's grandson, Chris Wilson, but remains on the same Central Southland property.

We record and tag all progeny at birth to ensure accurate records for each of the offspring. All progeny is then recorded onto the SILace data base and the selection process for the next seasons ram and ewe lambs begins. We eye muscle scan all ram hoggets and also are testing for the myomax gene. All ewes are single sired to a fitting sire so there is no mistake to who the sire is.
